We are looking to recruit a Health and Safety Manager for a leading construction materials group who operate in various areas including cement plants, quarries, asphalt plants, RMC plants etc. The successful candidate will manage a small team of 2 H&S Advisors and 1 H&S Administrator. You will have either an aggregates, quarry, cement, heavy engineering or construction background
This role can be office (Dundee)/home based and will cover the North East England including Glasgow, Edinburgh and the Hebrides. The successful candidate must be prepared for overnight stays when required (approx. 1 or 2 per week). Candidates must reside or be prepared to relocate to Borders/Southern Scotland.

Key Responsibilities

• Propose, agree and implement business H & S Strategy, Policy and Vision.
• Ensure a clear and practical plan to produce year on year Safety Improvement Plans.
• Lead the implementation of strategy and best practice with appropriate resources.
• Appoint and maintain a supportive H & S organisation with the right balance of specialist skills, knowledge and experience.
• Work with the senior business teams to ensure that H & S band compliance standards and improvement plans are developed within the wider business and facilitate/monitor the implementation of these.
• Lead support & coach/develop the H & S team and key stakeholders with clear objectives.
• Review key performance indicators to ensure the business strategy is proportionate, appropriate and progressive, reporting key issue to the Northern ExCom.
• Support Operational Management Teams to prevent injuries and ill health.
• Proactively represent the Business with trade associations, regulatory bodies, key stakeholders and customers where appropriate.
• Investigate and keep pace with industry developments to benchmark and ensure best practice
• Prepare and manage H & S budgets and maintain costs within agreed levels.
• Communicate relevant information across the division by the distribution of newsletter, safety bulletins and legislation updates
